Description
A rich and creamy homemade chocolate ice cream that’s easy to make with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, whisk together the heavy cream, milk, sugar, and cocoa powder. Heat over medium heat until it simmers.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly pour half of the hot cream mixture into the yolks while whisking continuously.
- Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
- Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, strain the mixture before chilling.
- If you don’t have an ice cream maker, freeze the mixture in a shallow dish and stir every 30 minutes until firm.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
