Description
Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, these buttery Belgian Liege waffles are made with pearl sugar for a caramelized crunch.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup Belgian pearl sugar
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Knead until smooth.
- Cover dough and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Fold in pearl sugar gently.
- Divide dough into 8 pieces. Cook each in a preheated waffle iron for 3-4 minutes until golden.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Use Belgian pearl sugar for authentic caramelization.
- Do not overmix the dough after adding pearl sugar.
- Let waffles cool slightly for crispier texture.
