- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 tbsp rosemary, chopped
- 2 tbsp thyme, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 large onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 2 cups cranberry sauce
- 1 lb roasted carrots
- 1 lb roasted Brussels sprouts
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Rinse the turkey and pat it dry with paper towels.
- Mix butter, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
- Place onion and garlic inside the turkey cavity.
- Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the pan.
- Roast the turkey for 3 to 3.5 hours, basting every 30 minutes.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, roasted carrots, and Brussels sprouts.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey reaches 165°F (74°C) internally.
- Letting the turkey rest ensures juicier meat.
- You can prepare side dishes while the turkey roasts.
