A rich and hearty classic homemade bolognese sauce perfect for pasta dishes.
Ingredients

- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 500g ground beef
- 200g pancetta or bacon, diced
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook until softened.
- Add ground beef and pancetta. Cook until browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, and red wine.
- Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer on low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Serve over cooked pasta.
Notes
- For a thicker sauce, simmer longer.
- Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months.
- Use fresh herbs if available.
