- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4–6 tbsp ice water
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tbsp jam or preserves (optional filling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Cut chilled butter into small cubes and blend into the flour mixture until crumbly.
- Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms.
- Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pastry shapes.
- Place half the hearts on a baking sheet, add 1 tsp jam in the center if desired.
- Cover with another heart shape, press edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- Chill dough for 30 minutes if too soft.
- Use any jam flavor you prefer.
- Dust with powdered sugar after baking for extra sweetness.
