  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 46 tbsp ice water
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp jam or preserves (optional filling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut chilled butter into small cubes and blend into the flour mixture until crumbly.
  4. Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms.
  5. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  6. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pastry shapes.
  7. Place half the hearts on a baking sheet, add 1 tsp jam in the center if desired.
  8. Cover with another heart shape, press edges with a fork to seal.
  9. Brush tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
